Sports Hall

Name  Sports Hall
Campus Kingston Hill
Key stages Work begins in early 2017 and is due to be completed by end of that year

The University is building a new, multi-use sports building on the Kingston Hill campus. The new Sports Hall will replace Car Park A at the top of the campus with a high-quality, sustainable and well-designed building; due to be completed by end of 2017.

The new Sports Hall will cater for a range of sports including netball, badminton, basketball and five-a-side football. Care and consideration has been given to the exterior for the new building, given the site's location within Kingston Hill's conservation area, with soft landscaping and tree planting planned for the perimeter.

South-west elevation

Currently the University has a lack of indoor sports facilities. This new facility will increase opportunities for student sport, and will include:

  • facilities for a range of sports including netball, badminton, basketball and fiive-a-side football;
  • facilities including changing rooms, equipment store and reception/medical room;
  • inclusive and accessible design providing facilities for disabled users;
  • covered cycle parking spaces and disabled parking spaces; and
  • new soft landscaping and tree planting.

The building will be finished with sustainable rockpanel boards providing a durable façade with a subtle blend of colours and wood-effect finish.

A cable trellis system on the west elevation will allow climbing plants to grow naturally and soften the appearance further, in keeping within the conservation area of Kingston Hill.
