Mozart
Saturday 17 March 2012, 7:30pm
The C minor Mass and the Solemn Vespers are among the finest of Mozart's choral works and encompass a cornucopia of styles. The Mass, written in celebration of his marriage, is richly influenced by baroque structure and musical language, resulting from intense study of the music of Bach, Handel and others. The Vespers settings are more severe, though in both works the composer's irrepressible exuberance is never far away. The Divertimento is a short early piece for strings.
