Graduation assistant job description

This is a great opportunity to assist with the running of Kingston University's graduation ceremonies, gain valuable work experience and be able to support your peers on their special day:

Job purpose

  • To support the Graduations and Events Team with all aspects of running successful graduation ceremonies.

Main duties

  • Assist graduates and their guests with any queries they have at the ceremonies.
  • Manage flow of graduates and guests in foyers and queuing areas as part of a team.
  • Monitor assigned area of responsibility (ticketing, ushering, dressing, foyer areas, queues, signage etc) and report any issues to team leaders.
  • Attend scheduled training and briefings (paid) to enable you to carry out your duties.
  • Take direction from the Graduation Team on daily tasks.
  • Undertake administrative tasks eg ticketing, stuffing envelopes.

Conditions of employment

  • Work venue: Rose Theatre Kingston plus other town centre and campus locations. Administrative duties may take place at River House, Kingston University.
  • Rates of pay: £7.50 per hour. There will be the opportunity for enhanced rates of pay. Candidates who demonstrate the relevant skills will be offered these roles.
  • Hours of work: Full or half day shifts between the hours of 8.00am and 5.30pm (approx). There may be occasions where you will be asked to work earlier or later than these times. Breaks will be at fixed times (to be advised depending on shifts).
  • Dress: Smart dress reflecting the formal nature of the graduation ceremonies – this means no jeans, shorts, t-shirts or trainers.
  • Availability: Any changes to your availability, including illness, must be communicated as soon as possible to the Graduations and Events Team.

Please note that if you are often late and/or miss shifts and do not inform the Graduations and Events Team, your contract will be discontinued and you will not be eligible for other work.

We need you to be able to commit to at least two full-day (or four half-day) shifts per month of ceremony.

Graduation dates

  • 31 October – 4 November 2011
  • 16 – 24 January 2012
  • March 2012 – two dates to be confirmed (minimum one day commitment)
