Local community
The University plays an important role in Kingston upon Thames and the surrounding area. As one of the area's largest employers and the primary regional focus for higher education, we have developed a close relationship with the local council, the Royal Borough of Kingston.
Working with business
- We have built a strong partnership with the business community through the Chamber of Commerce. Many local businesses now employ students on a part-time basis.
- We also offer conferencing facilities and a range of other services for business.
Cultural events
- The University is currently developing a new theatre, the Rose of Kingston.
- The Stanley Picker Gallery is open to local people and students. Staff in the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture are also involved in community-based arts projects.
- The historic Dorich House on Kingston Hill hosts many exhibitions and conferences during the year.
- The University's choir and orchestra perform regularly at local venues.
- As a major centre of artistic and cultural activity in Kingston, we also organise many other events.
Sporting facilities
- We have improved public access to our specialist facilities and staff expertise.
- For example, student volunteers share their knowledge through coaching at schools and clubs. Schools and junior teams can also take advantage of the University's outdoor sports facilities at Tolworth Sports Ground at discounted rates.
- Dance and well-being courses run at the University's fitness centre are open to the general public.
