Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation)

About Martin

Professor Martin McQuillan was promoted to Deputy Vice-Chancellor in July 2016. He has previously served as Pro-Vice Chancellor of Research and as Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. He is also Professor of Literary Theory and Cultural Analysis and Co-Director of The London Graduate School.

Martin came to Kingston from the University of Leeds, where he was the Associate Dean of Research in the Faculty of Performance, Visual Arts and Communication. Before that he was Head of the School of Fine art, History of Art and Cultural Studies. He was made Professor at Leeds in 2005.

His academic research covers modern literature and thought, and contemporary culture. He is also an award-winning filmmaker and a frequent contributor to the higher education press in the UK.

Responsibilities and portfolio areas

Professor Martin McQuillan is as a key member of the University's senior management team and works to formulate and implement academic strategy across the University.

He is responsible for all aspects of research and innovation, including external income, PGR students, REF, and researcher development. He is also Chair of the University Professorial Appointments Committee.
