Peter Buse is the Interim Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research, Business and Innovation) at Kingston University.

About Peter

Peter was appointed Interim Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research, Business and Innovation) in August 2017. He was previously Associate Dean for Research, Arts and Social Science, a post he took up in May 2016, after originally joining Kingston University in 2013 as Head of School of Performance and Screen Studies. Peter was formerly Head of English, Drama and Creative Writing and Professor of Visual Culture at the University of Salford in Manchester.

He has published widely in fields including theatre studies, film studies, the history of photography, and psychoanalytic and cultural theory.  His most recent research, on the history of Polaroid photography, was funded by the British Academy, the AHRC and the Leverhulme Trust and resulted in the widely-acclaimed The Camera Does the Rest: How Polaroid Changed Photography (Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 2016).

Responsibilities and portfolio areas

At Kingston University Peter's responsibilities include:

  • Enhancing and improving the quality and quantity of research outputs, outcomes and impact; and optimising the University's REF performance.
  • Increasing the University's research and enterprise-related revenue streams.
  • Management and monitoring of ethics specifically as they relate to the University's research and enterprise-related activities.
  • Ensuring that research active staff are attracted to and retained at the University and creating an environment in which the University's researchers can flourish.
  • Knowledge exchange, including incubator facilities and the promotion and encouragement of entrepreneurship.
