David Mackintosh was appointed the Deputy Vice-Chancellor in November 2009 and became Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor in August 2014. Previously he was Dean of the Faculty of Science here at Kingston University, and he first joined Kingston 25 years ago as a senior lecturer.
After a first degree in biochemistry at the University of Kent, he went on to do a doctorate in diabetic kidney disease and worked as a researcher at Guy's Hospital Medical School, Charing Cross Medical School and West Middlesex Hospital before joining Kingston University.
David's interests range across most aspects of the student lifecycle. He has been responsible for quality assurance and enhancement, portfolio development and student support. As a former institutional lead on equality and diversity he has actively studied the ethnic attainment gap.
David is responsible for deputising for the Vice-Chancellor across a whole range of activities internally and externally. He also acts as a leading member of the University's senior management team and plays a key role in developing and implementing its strategy.
