Educational Technology
The Educational Technology team, part of the Academic Development Centre, consists of a central team of academics, developers, technical and administrative staff, and 7 Faculty-based Blended Learning Leaders.
The Educational Technology team’s primary focus is the effective and appropriate use of educational technologies to enhance the student experience of learning and teaching, both online and in the classroom, formal and informal, in the context of the University’s Quality Enhancement Strategy.
Our work covers a number of strands:
- e-Learning strategy focussing on policy, procedures and infrastructure for developing, promoting and embedding effective practice across the institution.
- The institutional ‘StudySpace’ encompasses a core Virtual Learning Environment (Blackboard) as well as a range of additional tools and environments including social networking (One Community), online assessment, wikis, blogs and podcasts, desktop video and audio conferencing, and multi-user virtual reality worlds.
- Staff development covering blended learning practice online and in the classroom, online assessment and awareness of and training on a variety of technologies hosted internal and external to the institution.
- Evaluating emerging technologies and approaches and their application to learning and teaching.
- Resource development covering online materials and activities.
- Classroom technologies including electronic voting systems, tablet PCs, mobile podiums and text messaging.
