Gowns for Kingston University graduation ceremonies

We encourage everyone to wear 'academic dress' (gown, hood and hat) at their graduation ceremony. And no, it's not compulsory, but most graduates make an effort on the day.

The type of gown, hood and hat depends on the qualification you're being awarded. See our gown guide to find out more.

Ordering your gown

Ede & Ravenscroft is the company that supplies all Kingston University's academic dress. To order yours, visit the Ede & Ravenscroft website. You'll need to enter 'Kingston University' into the search bar and click 'Find'. Ordering your gown in advance will save you money.

The deadline to order your gown is Monday 3 July 2017.

If you haven't hired your gown by Monday 3 July 2017,  you may be able to hire a gown at Ede & Ravenscroft on the day, although this is not guaranteed. If a gown is available on the day of your ceremony it'll cost more and they can't guarantee to have your size.

What to wear (underneath)

Graduations are friendly rather than formal but, as it's a special occasion, most people – including guests – go smartly dressed.

From a practical point of view, it's best if graduates wear a shirt or blouse so that the hood can be fastened on a button. Alternatively, bring a safety pin.

Collecting and returning your gown

Visit our planning your day for information about how to collect and return your gown and at what time. The gowning staff on the day will help you put your gown on and make sure you are looking smart before you are presented onto the stage.

Cancellation and refunds

Once you have hired your gown, you have a period of 14 days from the date of your order, where you can cancel your booking, and receive a full refund.

If a period of 14 or more days has passed since you made your booking, a refund can be processed (minus a £1.50 administration fee). To obtain a refund please contact Ede & Ravenscroft directly.

All requests for refunds must be received by Monday 10 July 2017.
