Graduating Class Gift 2017

Did you know that, every year, thousands of Kingston graduates (our 'alumni') give generously of their time and money to support our current students?

In 2016/17, our alumni gave £130,000 to directly support current students through the Inspire the Future campaigns. We think that's incredible, and shows that although you will graduate and go on to achieve incredible things all over the world, Kingston University and your time here will stay with you. We're proud of you, and we hope you're proud of us!

Alumni support

You may have received a scholarship or hardship grant yourself, or maybe you know someone who did. So much of what Kingston University is today would not exist without the support and involvement of those who studied here in the past.

As you graduate from Kingston, we hope you will choose to join this wonderful tradition of alumni support. A gift of just £3 as part of the Graduating Class Gift will benefit current and future students at your university through dozens of scholarships and hardship grants. Every penny you give will be matched by alumni, so your £3 will become £6.

Giving is simple. Just text GRAD17 followed by your K number to 70111 to donate £3, or give through OSIS when you book your graduation tickets.

To say thank you, we will be giving out 'Made in Kingston – Class of 2017' tote bags at your graduation ceremony. Just make sure to save the Kingston University response text and show it to staff at the Alumni Association stand to claim yours. If you have given through OSIS, just give us your name and K number on the day.

Your Graduating Class Gift 2017 champions – why we give

Our champions are student leaders who believe in the power of helping future Kingston students. All of them have also worked as part of the Inspire the Future campaigns, and between them have raised more than £40,000 for Kingston University students.

Megan Blythin, Creative Writing and Drama BA (Hons) 2017:

Megan Blythin"Education has saved me, and given me the confidence and tools to become who I want to be. The staff at Kingston University have been nothing but understanding and encouraging throughout my time here, and I'm really grateful for all their support.

Through working with the Inspire the Future campaign I have learned how important donations from alumni are – I myself and many of my friends have benefited from different funds, and they really do make a huge positive impact. Without the Student Hardship Fund I wouldn't have been able to continue with my degree, so it is in part thanks to alumni that I will be able to graduate this summer at all.

"I have never felt more at home than I do at Kingston. I've gone from feeling like a flamingo among pigeons to graduating with a flock of like-minded pink feathered friends. Congratulations, class of 2017!"

Lucius Zhang, Forensic Science BSc (Hons) 2017:

Lucius Zhang "This university has offered me so much support, encouragement and opportunities during some difficult times; Kingston University almost feels like my second family. It has been my absolute honour to work as a part of the Inspire the Future fundraising team - arguably one of the best experiences of my life. It has taught me the importance of giving back to the community, to never lose faith in the kindness of others, and that everyone deserves an equal chance at finding their place in life.

"As cheesy as this sounds, the £3 you give as a part of the Graduating Class Gift is so much more than just financial support - it is invaluable encouragement and a beacon of hope for future students. Kingston never gave up on me, so I will never give up on the future of Kingston!"

What will my donation support?

Every penny donated by alumni is spent on student projects. Your gift will:

...and remember, every pound you give will be matched 100% by alumni who have gone before you.

Graduating Class Gift 2016

We launched our Graduating Class Gift last year with the class of 2016, and together they raised a fantastic £1,500 – enough for a full year of a bursary for a student who has left care. Thank you to the class of 2016 for their show of generosity. We can't wait to see what the class of 2017 can achieve.

Thank you for being a part of the Graduating Class Gift 2017! If you would like to find out more, please email the alumni team at alumni@kingston.ac.uk.

Giving is simple

Text GRAD17 followed by your K number to 70111 to donate £3.*

* Make sure to save the Kingston response text to receive a free 'Made in Kingston - Class of 2017' tote bag at your graduation ceremony.

Why should I participate?

  • You will ensure that future students who need a bit of help can create their own unique Kingston experiences, just like you did.
  • Believe it or not, only a portion of Kingston's annual budget comes from tuition and government funding. The remaining funds must be generated through the loyal support of alumni, friends, businesses and STUDENTS!
  • High giving rates show alumni, recruiters, prospective students and other institutions that our students believe in Kingston, increasing the value of your degree.

Your participation shows your confidence in Kingston's mission and the education you received, setting a powerful example for next year's graduating class; and the one after that.

Thank you for making the Kingston University community even stronger through your generosity.
