Kingston alumnus launches new publication and media company
Emerging Students is a media and publication brand covering grassroot university culture with a real-world global perspective. It is spread across five sections: shakers, culture, design and fashion, sport and affairs. The brand encompasses a wide range of subjects: from emerging start-ups, rogue university policy makers, alumni 'shakers', film festivals in Utah, and even the best place to buy your fresh bread!
This publication is for students searching for new opportunities, alumni beginning their careers, academics wanting new ways to experience education and emerging talent from various backgrounds who want to make sure the latest trends aren't passing them by. It seeks to be a movement that redefines university culture for the good of colleges all around the world – but predominantly at home in the UK.
Emerging Students was conceptualised by Anthony Ogunbowale-Thomas, a recent graduate from Kingston University. Anthony reflected that his time at university didn't prepare him for life after university, nor did the UK university experience do justice to the richness of collegiate culture that could be experienced whilst studying. He founded Emerging Students in 2011 and has since worked with students from Oxford, London Business School, Central Saint Martins and Goldsmiths. Last year saw the launch of The Shaker's Issue marked by a strategy and forecasting event, 'Brand Britain', hosted at Wolff Olins, London.
Debut issue: The Shaker's Issue
The first issue of Emerging Students seeks to dispel media myths about a tarnished UK university culture by focusing on stories of genuine achievement and adventures from all over the world. They profile students/alumni to watch in 2012, take a look at LSE entrepreneurs taking an unconventional career route, report on the origin of superheroes and much more.
