Catching up with... Angelos Georgiou

Meet Angelos Georgiou, Kingston alumnus, Head of Valuation and Real Estate at USB Bank PLC, and the youngest ever President of the Cyprus Real Estate Agents Association.

What have you been up to since graduating?

Angelos GeorgiouFollowing my graduation in 2005 (BSc Real estate Management), I moved home to Cyprus, where I trained as a graduate surveyor. My line of business was within real estate management, real estate agency, transaction advisory and property valuation and consulting. I received my Chartered Membership (MRICS - Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) in 2008 and became an assessor of the RICS in 2014. I have since worked with various clients and financial institutions as an external expert in the valuation route, along with various litigation offices for expert witness purposes. In 2014, I was selected as one of two members of the Land Valuation Sub-Committee of the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber, in which we evaluate applications of graduates from all universities for recommendations to the committee in regards to licensing to work as a property valuer.

In 2011 I was elected as the President of the Cyprus Real Estate Agents Association, the youngest President the Association had ever elected, representing all estate agent members of the association in Cyprus.

In 2015 I was elected with the exceptional award of a 'Fellow' of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (FRICS) at the age of 33.

I now work within a financial institution as Head of Valuations and Real Estate.

Why did you choose Kingston?

I did my research at the time and considered Kingston University as one of the top rated within the surveying field.

What are your best memories from your student days at Kingston?

Walking from my halls of residence to town. The green grass, the beautiful buildings, and of course my friends there, and all those good times which included study and pleasure.

Have you been back to Kingston since graduating?

A couple of times since, I had missed having a cup of coffee with the view of the river!

Are you still in touch with anyone from Kingston?

Yes, I have a few very good friends whom I met during my time there.

What's your greatest achievement?

Following my graduation from Kingston and receiving my membership in the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, followed by my election as a Fellow of the Institution. I believe and recognise that my degree and experience through Kingston University has got to me to where I am in my career.

What advice would you give to your 18 year old self?

Stop worrying so much and concentrate, it will all be OK in the end.

What advice would you give current students on the Real Estate Management programme at Kingston?

You will worry, you will get tired, you will get confused, but study hard and you'll get there!
