Academic references for students

It is the University's policy to provide academic references wherever practicable. However, this might not always be possible beyond 18 months from the end of your studies.

The most appropriate person to write such a reference will usually be your personal tutor (for undergraduate and postgraduate taught degrees) or your research supervisor (for research degrees). Our Provision of Academic References for Students document (AG5) provides further guidance to staff and students/graduates on the provision of academic references. For more information please download the AG5 document from our policies page.

If you would like to request an academic reference, please email your personal tutor (for undergraduate and postgraduate taught degrees) or your research supervisor (for research degrees) directly providing the following information:

  • Full name
  • Date of birth
  • The course that you study or studied
  • The date you graduated
  • Kingston University student ID (if known)
  • Details of the reference request
  • Contact information

If you are unsure of whom to address your request to, please contact your faculty's Student Office:
