Links with business and industry
Our staff are active researchers in different areas of art and design history, ranging from the 19th century to the present. They regularly contribute to national conferences and seminars. We have collaborated with:
- the British Museum;
- Tate Britain;
- Tate Modern;
- the Design Museum;
- the Victoria and Albert Museum; and
- the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA).
We also have a lively programme of guest lecturers who bring in additional expertise. Recent speakers have included:
- Simon Bainbridge, editor of the British Journal of Photography;
- Neil Chapman, artist and lecturer at CSM;
- Jo Episcopo, journalist for BBC radio;
- Simon Grant, editor of Tate Etc magazine;
- Clare Grafik, curator of photography, Photographers’ Gallery;
- Julia Hall, commissioning editor, Sage Publications;
- Sophie Howarth, curator of public programmes, Tate Modern; and
- Laurie Newell-Britton, curator in the Contemporary Department, Victoria and Albert Museum.
Waterstones' prize
Each year we award the Waterstones’ prize, sponsored by the book retailer, for the best dissertation. Winning such an award can make a great addition to your CV.
