Inspire talent: be a mentor

Information for mentors

Inspiring Talent is an exciting six-month mentoring scheme aimed at developing Kingston University's final year students, with a view to building confidence and raising aspirations, bridging the gap between university and the world of work, enabling them to secure graduate employment. Mentors will be individuals within representative organisations who have graduated within the last three years or those with expertise in their field.

Benefits to mentors

  • Enhance leadership, communication and interpersonal skills by providing feedback and guidance
  • The opportunity to actively reflect on own practices and experiences
  • Access to bright and enthusiastic undergraduate students who can provide fresh perspectives
  • Receive industry standard training and support, contributing to your own professional development and give you, the mentor, the confidence and evidence that you can effectively aid the development of others

Benefits to your organisation

  • Increased brand awareness on campus and create a potential pipeline of applications.
  • Contribute to your corporate social responsibility offer
  • Direct access to Kingston University students
  • Understand more about the challenges young people are facing and how this could impact your organisation's recruitment strategy
  • Develop your organisation's existing talent by giving new graduates the opportunity to mentor as part of their graduate development scheme

What the scheme involves

  • An introductory meet and greet event and a celebration event to share experiences and successes
  • Monthly contact with your mentee over a period of six months
  • A minimum of two industry insight opportunities (ideally shadowing visits or attendance at a relevant industry event), enabling the mentee to gain an insight into the business environment and network with industry professionals

This year's Inspiring Talent Mentoring Scheme will launch in November 2016. Limited places available - please complete our online form to apply now.

If you have any questions about the scheme or would like to get involved, please email us:

Kingston students come from an exceptionally diverse demographic; nearly half are first  generation university attendees, and one in ten come from low socio-economic  backgrounds. We have a huge proportion of students from black and minority ethnic groups and Kingston also educates the largest number of local authority care leavers of any UK university. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to make a difference and help a student to discover an opportunity that could change their life forever.
