Dr Ines Direito Baptista Da Silva

Lead Researcher

I am the lead researcher of the Postgraduate Experience Project, one of 20 projects funded by the HEFCE Postgraduate Support Scheme. Previously I was a lecturer in psychology in the Department of Education at the University of Aveiro (Portugal), and the module leader of Developmental Psychology. In collaboration with my colleagues, I worked in the curricular restructuring of psychology degrees at University of Aveiro, following the requirements of the Portuguese Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education.

My Psychology PhD focused on transversal skills and learning styles in engineering education, and required me to work closely with students, teachers and business representatives (Fellowship Grant funded by Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT)). During my PhD I supported the lecturing of undergraduate modules and supervised undergraduate research projects in the Department of Education at the University of Aveiro.

Before my PhD I worked as a researcher in the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications at the University of Aveiro, with a multidisciplinary team of university and industry colleagues in the development of innovative projects in engineering education and research. I actively participated in the development of the project and in the submission process to a highly competitive international grant – Hewlett-Packard (HP) Innovation in Education Grant Initiative 2009. The project has won a HP grant ($100,000) and also the prize for best project in the 2010 HP Innovations in Education Worldwide Summit.

Research interests

My present research interests are focused on the graduate attributes, particularly in the STEM areas (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and the requirements of employers in terms of skills needs.

I am especially interested in the development of transversal skills and its relation with learning styles and self attributes, and gender differences in the STEM areas.
