Michelle Morgan

Project Manager / Senior Researcher

I am the principal investigator and project leader of a £2million HEFCE grant. Until recently, I was the learning and teaching co-ordinator at Kingston University in the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Computing. During my career I has been a faculty manager, researcher and academic. I am a practitioner who develops initiatives based on pragmatic and practical research. My various roles have given me good insight into academic and non-academic working practices. I am a highly respected student experience practitioner both nationally and internationally and in 2005, I was the recipient of a special award from the University of Sussex's Students' Union for Outstanding Achievement and Excellence. In 2009, I was made a Fellow of the Association of University Administrators (AUA) and I am a national associate of the Higher Education Academy, and in 2011 I was nominated for Teacher of the Year at Kingston University. I co-wrote and co-presented a five-part radio series for BBC China in 2011 on the student experience.

I have presented more than 45 national and international conference papers including five national and international published peer reviewed journal articles focusing on the postgraduate student experience. I was the editor and substantive contributor to two books that revolve around my Student Experience Practitioner Model which was designed to help colleagues support undergraduate and postgraduate students. Improving the Student Experience – a practical guide and Supporting Student Diversity – a practical guide published by Routledge each contain 40 practical and innovative case studies across the different stages of the Student Experience Practitioner Model from around the world. I have developed a free portal for staff which provides a range of information and links for anyone interested in improving the student experience in higher education: www.improvingthestudentexperience.com.
