GIS Professional Training Programme

Currently there are four modules available via distance learning:

Module One: Introduction to GIS - the first step

Module Two: Applied GIS - developing your skills

Module Three: GIS Techniques - making GIS work in your organisation

Module Four: Satellite and Aerial Imagery - making imagery work for you

Module Five: Map design for GIS - making an impact with map output

Module Six: Historical data: Maps and Imagery - understand historic data sources

Module Seven: Population, Space and Place - understanding and analysing population data

Module Eight: GIS at Work - video based guest lecturer series

All modules may be taken individually or in sequence as a complete course.

Each module:

• Takes approximately 35 hours to complete

• Comprises 10 units, with notes, exercises and assignments

• Comes with supporting materials: software or textbooks or a subscription to a leading GIS trade magazine

• Has support via phone, fax or email from academic staff

Students can learn at their own pace with a mix of self assessment questions and tutor appraised exercises.

• A full appreciation of the principles of GIS whilst developing practical skills using commercial software (in Module Two)
