Civic Reception 2017: Why visit

Come on a journey with us as we explore the history, present and future of Kingston University:

  • how expressive writing workshops in Iraq are helping traumatised victims recount their suffering;
  • how experts in the field are shaping the way the press present the 'news';
  • the representation of women in superhero comics;
  • why sensory rooms need to be modified if they are going to meet the needs of people with dementia;
  • the nostalgia and legacy of the analogue era;
  • dealing with doping in today's enhancement-driven society;
  • the role we play in antibiotic resistance; and much, much more.

You will also have a chance to chat one on one with researchers in the 'Hub'.

Get hands on with virtual reality headsets that transport the wearer into an immersive alternative environment:

  • our fabulous 'Lab in a Lorry', which allows us to take cutting edge technology and science activities to local schools; or
  • take the opportunity to play Connect Four with a robot.

Be wowed and inspired by games that are being used to test children's number abilities:

  • the visual and material properties of language through concrete poems, abstract painting, asemic writing and other avant-garde techniques;
  • how drones could be used in an internet-connected security system;
  • a program that is helping people with knee and hip pain; and
  • interesting objects from Kingston University's past.

Then kick back, relax, chat, network, have a drink and find out how to make the most of your local university, and access facilities such as sports centres and gyms, libraries, event space, Dorich House and the Stanley Picker Gallery.
