An evening with Janet Dowling and Alan Wearne

Janet Dowling is an oral storyteller and writer using folklore and folktales, appearing in storytelling clubs, at festivals and conferences. She has been a director of the Society for Storytelling, and established the Surrey Storytellers Guild in Ewell, Surrey. In 2012 she was awarded the Folk Lore Society McDowell prize for "Naming the Green Man of the Medieval Church".  Her collection of "Surrey Folk Tales" was published in 2013 by The History Press. She is a student on the low residency Creative Writing MA course at Kingston University.

Alan Wearne has been part of the Australian poetry scene since the late 1960s. His main claims to fame have been in the areas of narrative verse, in particular verse novels of which Out Here and The Lovemakers have been published in Britain by Bloodaxe and Shearsman respectively. Since 1998 he has taught at the University of Wollongong (80km south of Sydney) though being in exile from Melbourne he will return to that city when he retires. As well he is a publisher of Grand Parade Poets, with 9 books since 2011.
