Two studies in serendipity and accidental life stories

In this talk, John Stuart and Sue Hawkins (Department of History, Kingston) explore how bringing together multiple dry official documents can reveal more than was intended. Discussing their own research projects, they examine the intersections of biography and history, and how you can write a ‘life story' not just of individuals but of whole communities: finding that if you construct a skeleton of a life from official documents you can form a structure on which to overlay and develop an idea of an emotional life based on the experiences of others.

Run in conjunction with Kingston University's English Department.
