The inaugural lecture of Prof Vron Ware: 'Of War Time and Nightingales'

Join us for the inaugural lecture of Professor Vron Ware.

This lecture addresses the idea that our lives are shaped by the fluctuating rhythms of ‘war time' and ‘peace time'. Drawing on her research into whiteness, racism, gender and militarism Prof Ware will question the widespread but erroneous belief that wars correspond to fixed dates on the calendar, asking how we might respond to the fact that war now appears to be a permanent feature of our political culture. She will think aloud about how to cultivate an ethics of intellectual inquiry that is shaped by paying closer attention to the world around us. For her, this new orientation includes being attentive to the movements and habits of birds including their song. What can the sound of the Nightingale tell us about ourselves, our histories and the times in which we live?

Followed by a drinks reception.

Booking is essential to attend this event.
