Facebook as a Digital Megamachine

This talk draws on the work of Mumford, Deleuze and Guattari to trace the evolution of megamachines from ancient to modern and then to digital ones, which corresponds to the evolution of human societies from sovereign to disciplinary and finally to control societies. It analyses the flips that have transpired when megamachines become digital. Facebook will be diagrammed as a digital megamachine par excellence, partly to reveal a new economic paradigm that rests on smart machinic enslavement. The talk ends on a note of tactics of resistance with all the attendant fallibilities and limitations.
