Boards agonise over it; consultants wisely opine about it; journalists fillet it, but does business strategy really make much difference? Or, does a well-managed business succeed without any long-term, thought through strategy?

About the speaker

Jeff Harris – read natural sciences at university, switched to accountancy and qualified as a chartered accountant then joined a UK co-operative pharmaceutical wholesaler as chief accountant. Progressed through to become CEO and eventually chairman as UniChem became a listed company, a FTSE 100 business, internationalised and eventually merged to become Alliance Boots, the integrated distributor and pharmacy chain. Now retired having served on a number of UK and EU boards in non-executive roles.
