Kingston University Civic Reception: A Research Showcase

We invite you to join us as we celebrate ideas and innovation

Thought leadership no longer resides just within academic circles and exclusive events. It's about openly sharing big ideas that change how people perceive the world.

This year we are extending an open invitation to our annual Civic Reception; as we 'throw the doors open' to the community, not only physically, but figuratively, to showcase Kingston University's research and the experts behind it, in a variety of formats, focusing on making complex research accessible to a wide range of audiences.

This event will offer a unique opportunity to access deep, insightful content provided by leaders and visionaries in their field, in a comfortable, engaging, and in some cases, hands-on way.

Big ideas - Interactive displays - Creative spectacles - Lively discussions

Come on a journey with us as we explore the history, present and future of Kingston University • how expressive writing helps traumatised victims • the role of 'experts' in shaping the 'news' • the representation of women in superhero comics • how multisensory rooms benefit those with dementia • the nostalgia and legacy of the analogue music era • dealing with doping in today's enhancement-driven society • the role we play in antibiotic resistance • and much, much more. Then take the opportunity to chat one on one with our researchers in the 'Hub'.

Get hands-on with virtual reality headsets that transport the wearer into an immersive alternative environment • our fabulous 'Lab in a Lorry', which allows us to take cutting-edge technology and science activities to local schools • or challenge a robot to a game of Connect Four.

Be wowed and inspired by games being used to enhance children's number abilities • the visual and material properties of language through poems, painting, writing and other avant-garde techniques • how drones could be used in internet-connected security systems • and interesting objects from Kingston University's past.

Then kick back, relax, chat, network, have a drink and find out how to make the most of your local university, and access facilities such as sports centres and gym, libraries, event spaces, Dorich House museum and the Stanley Picker Gallery.
