Whistle-blowing in sport: hopes and challenges fighting for integrity

In recent years, many sports have been rocked by integrity scandals -some of them discovered by whistleblowers. Whilst sport governing bodies appear to be starting to take whistleblowing more seriously, much more can be done to implement appropriate and transparent legal processes and protections for whistleblowers across sport thereby identifying and addressing integrity issues at an early stage. Although there exists some particular obstacles in sport teams to promote sportspeople to whistle the blow.

Dr José Luis Pérez-Triviño is professor of Philosophy of Law at Universitat Pompeu Fabra. With a Bachelor in Laws and a Bachelor in Philosophy, Dr Pérez-Triviño conducted some research stays at Uehiro Center for Practical Ethics of the University of Oxford, and in Heidelberg (Germany), Genova (Italy) and Córdoba (Argentina) universities. He performed several speeches and communications in different universities and international conferences. He is President of the Spanish Association of Philosophy of Sport (Asociación Española de Filosofía del Deporte), director of Fair Play Journal (Fair Play, Revista de Filosofía, Ética y Derecho del Deporte), and co-founder of the board of directors of the Latin Association of Philosophy of Sport (Associación Latina de Filosofía del Deporte).

All welcome.
