The Approved Mental Capacity Professional (AMCP) is a new, specialist role providing enhanced oversight for people aged 16 under the Liberty Protection Safeguards. AMCPs play a key role in the protection of people who are, or who need to be, deprived of their liberty to enable their care or treatment and who lack the mental capacity to consent to their arrangements. In this seminar, Dr Simon Abbott will report on findings from a qualitative research project exploring early implementation of the AMCP role in statutory social care services.

The study engaged a range of stakeholders and policy-makers in understanding the factors that facilitated and impeded implementation.
