Britten Centenary Concert

Rejoice in the Lamb, a colourful setting of words by the unbalanced but deeply religious 18th-century poet Christopher Smart, is notable for its idiomatic and virtuoso organ accompaniment. Herbert Howells wrote his Requiem after the death of his young son, later expanding it into his wonderful masterpiece Hymnus Paradisi. Fauré's Requiem is one of the most popular of all choral works. Like that of Howells', it is essentially contemplative, while full of inner drama.
