Social work seminar: End of life care: The policy, research and practice context

The seminar will explore the development and implementation of the national End of Life Care Strategy for England, with particular focus on the social care work stream of the National End of Life Care Programme and the Transforming Services agenda, identifying key current and future challenges.

Margaret Holloway is Professor of Social Work at the University of Hull and Director of the Centre for End of Life Studies. Prior to her career in social work education Margaret spent 10 years in social work practice in the Greater Manchester area.

From 2009–2014 she was Social Care Lead on the National End of Life Care Programme, in which capacity she led the development and implementation of the social care framework, 'Supporting People to Live and Die Well'. She has undertaken research into bereavement, spirituality, funerals, community care for people with Parkinson's disease and service user/carer-led care pathways and is particularly interested in the care of frail older people at the end of life. She is a founder member of the British Association for the Study of Spirituality (BASS) and has advised the Department of Health on training and development in spiritual care at the end of life. The essence of her work is brought together in the books, Negotiating Death In Contemporary Health and Social Care (2007) and (with Bernard Moss) Spirituality and Social Work (2010).

This event begins at 5.30pm but there will be refreshments available from 5.00pm.

Booking is essential to attend this event.
