Opportunities Fund

Have you ever had a great idea that never saw the light of day because you didn't have the support or the money to make it work?

Kingston staff and students are brimming with wonderful ideas, that's why the Opportunities Fund is giving seed-corn funding to help get the right projects off the ground.

Making ideas a reality

Managed by staff and often led by the students, the projects may:

  • arise out of student necessity;
  • be essential to maintain academic momentum;
  • have positive and lasting impact upon our students' experience at Kingston; or
  • benefit other, less fortunate people in the wider community.

Take a look at some of the projects the Opportunities Fund helped and the impact that's already been achieved:

Formula Student competition

Formula Student competition

The Opportunities Fund helped our engineering students take part in the Formula Student competition, an initiative that tasks students to build and then race an actual electric car at Silverstone. Viewed by the motor industry as the standard for engineering graduates to meet, this is proving to be a wonderful and life-enhancing experience for everyone involved. Find out more

British Sign Language courses

As part of the Union of Kingston Students and Kingston University's Disability Awareness Day, the Opportunities Fund helped to initiate British Sign Language courses for Kingston students. It has proved to be immensely popular with all the spaces filling immediately.

NXT Mindstorm Robots

NXT Mindstorm Robots

The provision of eight state-of-the-art robots that give computing and electronics students a hands-on introduction to their courses. These robots have also proved to be a fabulous addition to the University's Robot Club.

Future Shape - Kingston students helping the artists of tomorrow
