Human Resource Management BA(Hons)

Learning Support

Classes

Smaller group tutorials, workshops or computer laboratory sessions usually support the lectures.  The range of subjects in Human Resources Management means we use a variety of teaching formats.  A tutorial may involve:

  • researching a group project;
  • giving a talk about something you have worked on; or
  • discussing a case study.

There are lots of interactive elements and you are encouraged to put your own thoughts and ideas forward.

The range of learning formats we use also means that each subject is taught in the most effective way and there’s lots of variety.  The interactive elements make learning fun, interesting and easier.  You’re not only taking part, but also hearing different views and discussing how to apply what’s being taught. Plus smaller tutorial groups ensure that you also get the teacher’s individual attention.

Additional academic support

There is a range of support available, so, whatever difficulties you face, we’ll help you to achieve your full potential.

Tutors

The course and module leaders have set office hours during which you can get one-to-one help and support if you need it.

Academic skills advisers

Academic skills advisers hold drop-in sessions three or four times a week.  These sessions give you the chance to work through any academic skills issues that you feel are holding back your work.

Literacy support

We have a professional literacy support person who can help you improve your English language skills.  Just make an appointment or drop in.

Plus we run special classes to help overseas students improve their English.

Student Liaison Officer

We have a full-time student liaison officer who will provide any additional support, advice and assistance you may need throughout your time at the University.

Web-based support

Blackboard

Blackboard is a web-based learning management system that provides access to a host of information and material to assist with your studies.

Blackboard resources vary from module to module.  For example, it might include:

  • subject guides;
  • lecture notes;
  • presentations; and
  • even sound and video clips.

Other useful features are online discussion forums (bulletin boards), a virtual classroom and a drop box (for online submission of coursework).
