Orange Prize for Fiction Archive
The Orange Prize for Fiction is a prestigious book prize, awarded annually to the woman who, in the opinion of the judges, has written the best full-length novel in the English language. The prize was first awarded in 1996, following several years of discussion amongst a group of like-minded people who were concerned that the major literary prizes seemed to overlook the work of women writers. The Orange Prize for Fiction is now well-established and the award is eagerly anticipated each year.
The Orange Prize for Fiction Archive contains records relating to the Prize from its beginning to the present day. Topics covered include discussions and plans on the foundation of the Prize, its initial launch, book clubs and charity events run in conjunction with the Prize, and records on the organisation of the Prize each year. The Archive includes correspondence, meeting minutes, and publicity documents.
The Archive is a living collection, and will continue to be added to as the Prize is awarded each year.
