What happens if you are late returning or renewing an item

If you return or renew an item late, you will be fined.

If you check your account regularly, you will know when the items on loan to you are due and can avoid getting fines. See the section Your borrower account for more information.

You can renew your borrowed items by telephone or online if you cannot come into the library. Even if an item is overdue by a few days or if you have a small fine less than a month old you should still be able to renew it.

To help you keep your Borrower account up to date we will try to contact you by email a few days before an item is due to remind you to renew the item. Once an item has become overdue, we will again try to contact you by email and then by letter.

If a book becomes more than a month overdue, your borrowing rights will be suspended and you will be unable to borrow or renew any items until you return it.

After 60 days, we will send you a university invoice, which will cover the cost of replacing the item, the fines that are due on the item and a £5 admin charge. The fines and £5 admin charge are not refundable and will need to be paid in full before you can continue to use the library. All university invoices relating to Library debts need to be paid at Credit Control in Cooper House.

You can pay in person at Credit Control, over the telephone by debit or credit card, or by a cheque in the post. If you are paying by post, please make sure you write the invoice number and your borrower number from your KU ID card on the back. Please try to settle a university invoice as soon as possible.

If you have an overdue item, please try to resolve the matter as soon as you can.
