Placing a hold request
If you need an item and all the copies are on loan, or if you cannot find it on the shelf, or if it is at another campus you can put a hold request on it.
Placing a hold request on an item where all the copies are out on loan
If all of the copies of an item are on loan, you can place a hold request using iCat. You should select whether you wish to request a 7-day or a 4-week copy.
- Search for the item on iCat. If it is showing as Available you will only be able to place a Hold request at the Help Desk. If all copies are on loan, record will show Check Locations.
- Sign in (you may need to re-enter your K number and computer password if you are off campus)
- Click on Request and select the Campus where you would like to collect the item.
- Click Hold to confirm your request
Note: you can choose to place a hold request on 7-day or 4-weeks items, but if a queue of people are waiting for a 4-week item, you will only be able to borrow it for one week. We will email you when the item is ready for collection. It will be kept at for you for seven days. You should collect the item from the Requested items shelves in the LRC and use the self service machine to issue the item to your Borrower account.
Placing a hold request on an item that you cannot find on the shelf
If you cannot find an item on the shelf, but iCat shows that copies should be available, you can reserve the item at the Help desk.
We will email you when your reservation is ready for collection. It will be kept at for you for seven days. You should collect the item from Requested Items shelves in the LRC and use the self service machine to issue the item to your Borrower account.
Placing a hold request on an item that is held at another campus
You can place a hold request on an item held at another campus and it will be sent to the campus you select for you to collect it.
If the item is not on loan, you can only place a hold request at the Help desk.
We will email you when your item is ready for collection. It will be kept at for you for seven days. You should collect the item from the Requested Items shelves in the LRC and use the self service machine to issue the item to your Borrower account.
If you need the item in a hurry or want to use a Desk Loan or Project Loan item, you could use the free university bus to pick the item up yourself.
If all copies of the item are on loan, you can place a hold on it from iCat as shown above.
Are there items that I cannot request?
You cannot place a hold request on Desk loan, project loan and reference items.
