SCONUL Access Scheme
Kingston University participates in the SCONUL Access scheme.
You will need to speak to your home institution first, to obtain a SCONUL Access application form or reference card, before visiting us:
- If you are studying part-time, distance learning or on a work placement (6 weeks or more) you can ask your library to countersign a SCONUL Access application form. This will allow you to make use of our Library on a borrowing basis.
- If you are a full-time undergraduate or would just like to use our Library on a reference only basis, please ask your library for a SCONUL Access reference card.
To prepare for your visit, please make use of our online catalogue.
Please note, we do have stand alone catalogues in the LRC but we do not have open access PCs. Temporary guest accounts are only available to those visitors who have registered with us for a borrowing ticket via SCONUL Access.
Borrowing from Kingston University
Once you have obtained a countersigned SCONUL Access application form from your home institution, please come to the desk any time during opening hours where we will be able to issue you with an external borrower's library card. Please remember to bring your SCONUL Access application form and your library card from your home institution. It is not necessary to bring a passport size photograph.
Once we have issued you with a Library card, you will be able to borrow from any of our four sites and make use of many of our facilities. For more details about what members of our Library can borrow and use, please see the Borrowing Rights and other rights information on our webpages on Purchasing Membership (your membership is free). We regret that Kingston University dissertations and theses are kept on closed access and are only available to current Kingston University students and staff.
Your SCONUL Access expiry date is determined by your home institution. You will need to provide us with a new countersigned SCONUL Access application form if you wish to renew your membership.
Using the Library on a reference only basis
If you are visiting Kingston University Library to use it on a reference only basis, please sign in as a visitor at the desk. You will need to bring your SCONUL Access reference card and your home library card with you.
