Canada

Welcome to the country information section for students from Canada.

This guide is for Canadian students interested in studying at Kingston University for an undergraduate or postgraduate degree.

Studying in the UK

Most bachelors degrees in the UK are three years in duration and masters degrees are one year. The teaching style here means that students focus more closely on their subject of study and complete fewer general education classes and electives. This is an advantage to Canadian students because it means you can complete your degree in a shorter amount of time and therefore pay one year's less tuition. Degrees from UK universities are recognised around the world and are considered to be of the highest quality.

Canadian financial aid is available to students studying in the UK. Kingston University also has scholarships worth £3,300 each that we encourage all Canadian students to apply for. While undertaking your degree you are eligible to work part time.

Top-quality teaching

Students from Canada are attracted to Kingston University by its international reputation in teaching quality, supportive learning environment and proximity to London. Kingston is one of the top universities for teaching in the UK and has achieved strong results in national assessments of teaching quality.

In 2010, The Sunday Times noted that "Kingston has one of the best teaching records of the country's modern universities with 15 subjects rated excellent under the now abandoned teaching assessment programme. It sets out to make sure students have transferable skills and offers a range of work-based courses."

Kingston has some of the best graduate employment figures in the UK. We ensure that our courses teach you work-related skills and are relevant to today's work environment.

Kingston University has welcomed students from Canada into many of the degree courses across our five faculties including Business; Art Design and Architecture; Arts and Social Sciences; Science, Engineering and Computing; and Health and Social Care Sciences.

We are ideally located in the historic market town of Kingston upon Thames, about 16km outside central London.

We run a series of welcome and orientation event for international students, including a social specifically for students from Canada and America.
