United States of America (USA)
Welcome to the country information section for students from the United States of America.
This guide is for American students interested in studying at Kingston University for an undergraduate or postgraduate degree.
Studying in the UK
Most bachelors degrees in the UK are three years in duration and masters degrees are one year. The teaching style here means that students focus more closely on their subject of study and complete fewer general education classes and electives. This is an advantage to American students because it means you can complete your degree in a shorter amount of time and therefore pay one year's less tuition. Degrees from UK universities are recognised around the world and are considered to be of the highest quality.
American financial aid is available to students studying in the UK. Kingston University also has scholarships worth £3,300 each that we encourage all American students to apply for. While undertaking your degree you are eligible to work part time.
Top-quality teaching
As one of the fastest growing modern universities in the UK, Kingston maintains a tradition of developing courses with industry experts and professional organisations. These partnerships help Kingston University achieve some of the best graduate employment figures in the UK.
In 2010, The Sunday Times noted that "Kingston has one of the best teaching records of the country's modern universities with 15 subjects rated excellent under the now abandoned teaching assessment programme. It sets out to make sure students have transferable skills and offers a range of work-based courses."
We run a series of welcome and orientation event for international students, including a social specifically for students from America and Canada.
Study Abroad
If you are interested in studying at Kingston University as part of your degree in the United States (for either a semester or a year), please visit the Study Abroad site. Kingston University also hosts a Summer School each year, which welcomes undergraduate students from around the world, including the United States, who earn credits to take back home.
Transferring to Kingston
We will consider transfer students for advanced placement onto our degree programmes. However, the faculty teaching the course has the final decision on whether or not to accept your credits and we cannot guarantee that all credits earned will be applied to your Kingston degree. Read more about transferring credits and why to transfer to Kingston.
