About this course
Why choose this course?
Medicinal chemistry is concerned with the design and synthesis of chemical and biochemical products to combat disease. If you like chemistry with a biological slant and enjoy solving problems that will benefit people’s health, this course is ideal. It provides an education in chemistry, with a particular emphasis on how it is applied to problems in the medicinal area.
What will you study?
You will develop your knowledge of chemistry and biology and will learn about the structure of drugs, their effects on the body and their ability to counteract disease. You will study biochemistry and medicinal chemistry, including pharmacology, toxicology and immunology. You will also learn about computer-aided drug design and can explore topics such as disease types, animal cells, human physiology and molecular modelling.
