Course features
- This course is ideal if you're interested in motorsport and would like learn about the engineering involved.
- You learn through a combination of lectures and practical laboratory work. The start of the course gives you a basic grounding in engineering concepts, such as:
- structural mechanics;
- materials;
- applied science; and
- engineering mathematics.
- Specialist motorsport subjects include:
- engine, chassis, suspension and braking systems; and
- aerodynamics.
- You also have the chance to undertake in-depth study of an area of motorsport engineering. You might look at the theory of developing an engine and chassis, for example, gaining the practical skills to apply it in an industrial environment.
- Students learn about racecar preparation, driver training and evaluation. You also gain an understanding of drivers' feedback in terms of vehicle set up.
- We have good connections with companies in the industry, including Lotus, Williams, Renault, BAR and HKS. This allows us to arrange guest lectures and field trips.
- Our hands-on approach equips you with the best possible chance for employment, giving you an understanding of the industry. Other modules give you the skills needed for the workplace, including:
- communication;
- self-management;
- teamwork; and
- leadership.
- You have the option to take a sandwich year in industry. This is very useful as you improve your understanding of the industry and its deadlines.
- Language tuition is available and you can also choose to go on an international exchange.
