Mike on the road to teaching career

Photo of Mike HooperA career change brought Mike Hooper to Kingston University as a mature student. The 32 year old from Kingston had worked in the City as a money broker for a number of years. But, after quitting his job to travel around the world, he decided what he really wanted to do was teach.

Mike had already completed a Higher National Diploma in Business and Finance after leaving school but discovered he needed to get a degree before embarking on teacher training. “When I arrived back from my travels last August I got straight on the phone to Kingston University’s Clearing hotline to find out what I could do,” Mike said. “Because I had my HND, I discovered I only needed to do a one-year top up to qualify for a degree in business administration.”

Now about to enrol for a Postgraduate Certificate in Education at Kingston, Mike hopes to soon take his knowledge of the world of finance into the classroom teaching business studies. He won’t be the only teacher in the family either. His wife, Melissa, has just graduated from Kingston University’s school of education.
