Fresh challenge for education expert

Photo of Mary BoustedThe Head of the School of Education is stepping down from her post at the end of July after being elected General Secretary of the Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL).
Dr Mary Bousted was chosen to take on the top job with the union, which represents 160,000 teachers, lecturers and support staff, after a three-way ballot.

Although looking forward to the challenge of her five-year term as General Secretary, she admits she is sad to be leaving the University. “I will miss working at Kingston very much, but I leave knowing that the School of Education has firm foundations and the capacity to grow and diversify,” she said.

Dr Bousted said there had been many high points during her time at Kingston. The School of Education had done extremely well in Ofsted inspections and was now recognised as one of the United Kingdom’s highest quality providers in initial teacher training and continuing professional development. “Overall, the School has increased its influence both nationally and internationally,” she said. “The results have been achieved through the tremendous hard work and commitment of my colleagues.”
