Overview

As a specialist researcher in French music since Debussy, Caroline has published widely and is frequently invited to give talks at other universities and for organisations such as the Gergiev Festival (Rotterdam), ABC Australia and the BBC.

Since the publication of her book on Henri Dutilleux in 1997, she is recognised as the leading authority on this composer; in February 2008 she was involved in the BBC/Cardiff University 'Discovering Dutilleux' weekend, appearing on Music Matters and Performance on 3 (Radio 3), and in September 2009 she was a featured speaker at the opening concert of the London Symphony Orchestra's season. She has had the pleasure of interviewing him on a number of occasions.

In 2006 she published French music since Berlioz, a book co-edited with Richard Langham Smith, which was described in Classical Music magazine (May 2007) as 'among the best music books of the year.' Caroline is currently editing a book: Erik Satie: Music, Art and Literature, which is due for publication in 2013. She is expected to be much in demand as an expert commentator in 2016, which will mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of Satie and the 100th anniversary of the birth of Dutilleux.
