Overview

Professor Fielder is the director of Kingston University's Medical, Veterinary and Food Microbiology Research Group, based in the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Computing. His current research  encompasses medical, veterinary and food microbiology, including the molecular epidemiology of clinical strains of Staphylococcus aureus (including MRSA and MSSA) and Mycoplasmas, drug resistance and work on the disinfection and decontamination of surfaces in the clinical setting.

Professor Fielder obtained his PhD from King's College London in 1995, where he worked on the bacterial causes of arthritis. He is an accomplished media commentator and science communicator and is currently Honorary General Secretary of the Society for Applied Microbiology.
