Principal lecturer in law, Kingston University.
Pamela Sellman has been at Kingston University since 2003. She is a principal lecturer in law in the University's Faculty of Business and Law and her teaching areas include mediation and the law of international trade. Pamela holds three masters degrees in law, is a member of the Middle Temple in London and has qualified as an attorney at the New York State Bar.
As well as lecturing, she is an assistant mediator for "Talk Mediation" and does a certain amount of mediation work for the University, helping facilitate finding resolutions between those in the Kingston community. "Mediation resolves disputes with discussion," says Pamela. "Mediation is not about us telling you what to do - instead it helps resolve disputes through getting both sides to discuss their grievances in a calm environment."
Pamela has been on a number of civil mediation courses in America, training alongside judges who must all include mediation as part of their general work. She is well placed to comment in general about the work of mediators, whether they are mediating between large public sector bodies and the government, or between much small civil case parties. In addition she has a particular interest in the media's portrayal of Trade Unions.
