Clearing and Adjustment
What is Clearing?
Sometimes exams and applications don't go as planned. If your son or daughter doesn't get the right grades for their course, don't panic! They can apply for ones that still have empty places through Clearing.
Clearing starts immediately after A-level results are released in August and goes on through most of September. Any course that still has empty places will be available.
How to find a course through Clearing: If your son or daughter is interested in a course at Kingston, they should first contact us to talk about their options. If they find a course they like and meet the entry requirements, we will make them an offer directly (which is then confirmed by UCAS).
What is Adjustment?
If your son or daughter gets better results than they're expecting, Adjustment allows them to reconsider where and what they want to study. If they don't find a suitable place elsewhere, they'll remain accepted at their original choice.
How to find a course through Adjustment: Adjustment starts immediately after A-level results are released in August (or when your son or daughter's 'conditional firm' choice changes to 'unconditional firm' if this is later), and goes on until early September.
From this time your son or daughter has a maximum of five calendar days to find an alternative course. They first need to register on UCAS Track to allow universities and colleges to view their application.
They then need to contact the universities and colleges direct to find a suitable place. They can contact as many as they wish, but can only receive one formal decision through Adjustment.
Not everyone is eligible to apply through Adjustment so please visit the UCAS website for full information.
