Writing Children's Literature MA

Events and lectures

There are always interesting activities taking place at Kingston and exciting opportunities to take advantage of. Here are some examples of what you could be involved with if you study this course.

The range of events and lectures in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences enhances your studies and adds an extra perspective to your learning. Recent events include:

  • specialist conferences – addressing issues such as ‘Gothic Voyages’, ‘Iris Murdoch: A Re-Assessment’ and ‘Literary London’;
  • guest lectures– with speakers such as Christine Pullen, Susana Onega and Dr Julie Peakman;
  • film screenings – ‘Tudors and Stuarts in Film’, for example; and
  • the creative writing readings series – our last series featured readings by Liz Jensen, Meg Jensen, Mark Ford, Carole Burns, Mick Stephens, Trevelyan Evans and David Sanders.

The literary magazine Ripple is edited by MA students, providing:

  • a platform for the publication of creative work; and
  • a chance to get hands-on experience of the publishing process.

Our postgraduate creative writing students have also recently launched a new publication called Pages, which is open to submissions from across all disciplines in Kingston University. It includes fiction, poetry, reviews and creative non-fiction. A key feature of Pages is the information for writers on nationwide calls for submissions and competitions.
