Design for Development MA

Events and lectures

There are always interesting activities taking place at Kingston and exciting opportunities to take advantage of. Here are some examples of what you could be involved with if you study this course.

Greengaged activities and events

You may have the opportunity to participate in Greengaged activities and events. This sustainability hub was launched at the Design Council as part of the 2008 London Design Festival.

The event aims to bring together all sectors of the design industry to focus on sustainability issues, exchange ideas and carve out new roles for design. In September 2008 it organised over 40 scheduled events, debates, workshops, exhibitions, seminars and masterclasses, which over 2,000 people attended.

Greengaged was developed in association with the UK Design Council by Anne Chick from Kingston University's Sustainable Design Research Centre, Sophie Thomas at thomas.matthews, and Sarah Johnson at [re]design, with support from Arup and Three Trees Don’t Make A Forest.

Visit www.greengaged.com to read active blog pages about each of the events (postings continue to be added). Hundreds of photographs have also been posted on the Greengaged flickr site.

'Interdependence' lectures

'Interdependence' is a series of lectures for postgraduate design students in which leading practitioners explore the key issues for the creative industries. For example, in 'Help Change The World During Working Hours' Tim Ashton (Antidote), a former Kingston graduate, and Eugenie Harvey (We Are What We Do) discussed themes from their latest book.
