The Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture teaches this course. The Faculty has its roots in the studio-based approach of Britain’s art school system (the original School of Art was founded in the 1890s). |
Today, most of your learning still takes place in our specialist studios. Each subject area has its own fully-equipped studio, where you take part in classes, tutorials and critical reviews with fellow students. Staff profiles
Name: Anne Chick
Title: Course director, MA Design for Development, and director of the Sustainable Design Research Centre

Anne was named among the most influential sustainable design people in the UK by the design industry magazine Design Week.
Subjects specialisms: Anne is Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Environmental Design at the University of Calgary, Canada. Her sustainable design research, knowledge transfer and educational work have been acknowledged internationally in a number of government and other organisational publications. She is co-founder of Greengaged.
Anne has been an academic pioneer in this area for over 15 years. She directs funded research programmes, undertakes consultancy and is published widely in a broad range of sustainable design topics. During the past five years she has raised funds for research and knowledge transfer projects worth over £1 million. Read more.
Research interests: Anne's research interests include:
- public service design;
- design for social justice;
- environmental packaging design;
- ecopreneurship; and
- the role of design and designers in creating markets for UK recycled materials.
Name: Dr Miguel Imas
Title: Senior lecturer in the Department of Leadership, HRM and Organisation

Subjects specialisms: Miguel teaches organisational behaviour on the Kingston University MA Business Management, and the management of change on the MBA programme. He holds visiting lectureships at the London School of Economics and the Catholic University of Chile.
Research interests: Miguel’s principal research interests include:
- radical and alternative forms of organising;
- art and management; and
- management change and globalisation effects in Latin America.
Name: Dr Paul Micklethwaite
Title: Senior researcher

Specialist subjects: Paul’s specialises in sustainable design and social research methods. He has a BA in Philosophy and English from the University of York, and an MA in Innovation Studies from the University of Huddersfield, where he also gained a PhD investigating the question 'what is design?'
Paul now teaches, supervises research students, and undertakes research projects and knowledge transfer activities across a wide range of areas within sustainable design.
