About this course
Why choose this course?
Pharmaceutical science is conerned with the design and development of new drugs for clinical purposes. It explores the different sources of medicine, how they work and how they can be formulated (eg tablet, cream, inhaler), analysed and tested.
The BSc(Hons) route of our pharmaceutical science programme provides a wide understanding of all aspects of the pharmaceutical industry. Depending on your academic performance in the first two years of the course, you can take the MPharmSci route from the third year.
What will you study?
You will study topics ranging from introductory pharmaceutical chemistry and the basic principles of physiology and biochemistry, through to the design, synthesis and testing of biologically active molecules. Other topics include: pharmacology, pharmaceutical formulation, methods of drug delivery, pharmaceutical analysis and drug legislation.
