Professor Sean Hilton
Sean Hilton qualified MB.BS (London) in 1974. He has been a partner in General Practice in Kingston upon Thames since 1979. He is currently (since 2004) Vice-Principal for Teaching and Learning at St. George's, University of London, where he was appointed as Professor of General Practice in 1993.
He was Dean of Undergraduate Medicine from 1997-2002, and held responsibility for the introduction of new curricula for 5-years and 4-years MB.BS courses during that time. He is a non-executive Board member of the St. George's Healthcare Trust, and a member of the Council and Executive of the Association for Study of Medical Education (ASME).
He is a Trustee and founder member of the General Practice Airways Group (GPIAG) and also Chairman of the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic. He is a past Chairman (1998-2001) and Secretary (1991-95) of the Society for Academic Primary Care.
He chairs the management and project boards of the South West London Academic Network between St. George's, Kingston University and Royal Holloway, University of London.
He is co-leading the initiative to increase collaborative research between SGUL and Kingston University in elearning, widening access and professional development.
He is particularly interested in personal and professional development for medical students and more broadly across the medical education continuum, and is a member of the Royal College of Physicians' Working Party on Medical Professionalism. In 2002 he was awarded a Leverhulme Trust Fellowship to study medical professionalism in the USA and Australia.
He has published in several areas of medical and healthcare education, including professionalism and proto-professionalism; interprofessional learning; assessment; widening participation, and general practice and primary care education.
